CCSD ACT Scores Increase, Top National & State Averages

CCSD ACT Scores Increase, Top National & State Averages

The Cherokee County School District’s Class of 2025 ACT scores increased and topped national and state averages!

The class earned an outstanding 22.8 average, up from 22.5 last year and exceeding Georgia’s 21.4 (up from 21.2) and the Nation’s 19.4 steady average on the competitive college entrance and placement examination, according to a report released today by the Georgia Department of Education.

Students earn a score on a scale of 1 to 36.  The average CCSD scores by subject on the ACT, used to calculate the overall composite average, are: English, 21.8 (up from 21.7); Math, 22.2 (up from 21.9); Reading, 23.8 (up from 23.6); Science, 23.1 (up from 22.6).

“Congratulations to the Class of 2025’s students and our teachers for achieving this impressive success,” Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis said.  “This strong student academic performance, which parallels our SAT scores, is evidence of our commitment to students learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.  This is further testament of the CCSD School Board’s laser focus on student learning and the talented work of our teachers, leaders, and support staff.”

The ACT is taken in lieu of or along with the SAT, and the Class of 2025’s strong ACT scores follow excellent SAT results released earlier this fall.  The ACT scores reflect 794 CCSD students taking the exam, which is 25% of the class, down from 894 the previous school year.

“I want to congratulate our students who took the ACT.  The CCSD had an increase in composite scores over last year, which was higher than both the state of Georgia and the U.S.  We also saw increases in all four content areas that are measured by the ACT.  I want to give kudos to the teachers who prepared their students for this exam, to the parents who encouraged their students to study and to take the ACT, and to the students who studied and took this exam,” School Board Chair Janet Read Welch said.  “Our goal as a district is to prepare our students not only for K-12, but also for continuing education or workforce readiness once they graduate.  Keep up the great work – teachers, administrators, parents and, most importantly, students!”

Scores from CCSD’s high schools all surpassed state and national averages: Cherokee HS, 22.0; Creekview HS, 22.9; Etowah HS, 23.0; River Ridge HS, 22.9; Sequoyah HS, 23.3 – CCSD’s highest score; and Woodstock HS, 22.4.  A school score was not provided by ACT for i-Grad Virtual Academy due to participation levels.
