CCSD Schools Honored by State for Helping Students in Need
Two Cherokee County School District schools recently were recognized for their support of the Georgia Department of Education’s Georgia Schools Care project.
Through the initiative, schools across the state raised funds to support children in need through the department’s partnership with Clark’s Christmas Kids. The organization works to ensure that every child being served by the Georgia foster care system receives a Christmas gift. Mountain Road Elementary School and River Ridge High School earned recognition for their generous giving.
“I sincerely appreciate every student, staff, educator and community member who contributed to this worthy cause,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “This initiative was designed to provide all within education the opportunity to make an impact on those around us. It was an opportunity for us as an educational family to give hope, add value to those in need, and allow us to make a genuine difference in the lives of others. Even though the personal sacrifice may seem small, the collective efforts of all were substantial.”
More than 50 schools and districts statewide and several private donors contributed a total of $43,600.
Mountain Road ES earned recognition as a Diamond Star School, an honor for participation above 100%, based on a minimum $1 donation per person by both students and staff.
River Ridge HS earned recognition as a Gold Star School, an honor for participation between 70 and 89%, based on a minimum $1 donation per person by both students and staff.
