Etowah HS Teacher Earns National Recognition
A Cherokee County School District teacher has earned national recognition for her work in career education!
Etowah High School teacher Ashley Rivers, who leads the school’s successful Career Pathway agriculture program, is an FFA National Teacher Ambassador. Only 64 teachers nationwide were selected for this honor.
The ambassador program offers the nation’s top agriculture teachers the opportunity to share their best practices with fellow educators from across the country and receive additional professional development. They serve as the “leaders, mentors and trainers” for the more than 10,000 teachers who serve as FFA chapter advisors nationwide.
“The National Teacher Ambassadors for FFA program is a unique program that informs and develops teachers while allowing teachers to help National FFA remain relevant with today’s educational landscape,” said Ambra Tennery, FFA’s associate director of educational development and evaluation programs. “We are proud of the design of the program and the ability for teachers to make lifelong friendships with fellow teachers across the country. The benefits of this program are far reaching and important to the overarching work of the National FFA Organization.”
Ms. Rivers, an 18-year educator, leads Etowah’s Career Pathway agriculture programs which she has grown to include both Plant and Floral Design Systems and Companion Animal Systems. She serves as Etowah’s FFA chapter advisor and, this past school year, the chapter earned the national 2023 3 Star Chapter award, the highest rating awarded, and a national Grants for Growing award. She also has earned numerous previous honors as an educator including the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association's Outstanding Educator Award and twice winning the Georgia Farm Bureau’s First District Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award.
