Meet a 2024-25 Student Delegate: Sophia Foisy of Woodstock High School!

Student voice matters in CCSD!  Each year, every high school selects a Student Delegate to the School Board to represent their peers and provide valuable insight to the district’s governance team.  In addition to the Delegates participating in School Board meetings, Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis meets with the group throughout the year to listen for insights to develop plans for district and school improvement.  Learn more about our Woodstock HS delegate.  #CCSDElevateTheExcellence

Why did you want to serve as a student delegate to the School Board?

I wanted to serve as Woodstock High School’s student delegate for a multitude of reasons, but the one that stands out to me the most is passion for education. Ensuring that every kid receives the best education possible has always been important to me, and I knew there was no place better than Cherokee County to do this. Each of the School Board members, educators, and staff members have an unmatched motivation and determination for improvement, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that. As a voice of the students, the CCSD School Board is the perfect place to inspire change.

What do you hope to learn from the experience?

During this experience I have learned the true process that happens behind the scenes; each CCSD employee has a truly inspiring work ethic. Before being a part of the Board, I had no idea how many aspects and ideas went into producing an ideal fiscal year. I have gained an understanding of the policies and procedures done in the background and will forever be grateful for every staff member of CCSD. Their empathy and hard work for every student has inspired me to initiate true change in my own community.

What do you feel makes a good leader?

A good leader is someone considerate, empathetic and diligent. Every small decision a leader makes will impact those around them, and a good leader weighs every option to choose the one best for the people it will impact. Furthermore, a good leader must be a good listener, considering the opinions and perspectives of every individual, no matter their background.

What do you like most about your school?

I have always been proud of Woodstock High School. The aspect I am most proud of is how it prepares every single student for their future. Through career tech, STEM and fine arts pathways, every student can find their niche, which prepares and excites them for their future. In these pathways, every student is included and celebrated thanks to WHS’s amazing faculty and staff.
