2020 Etowah High School Alum

This week, during the Women’s Olympic Speed Climbing qualifiers round of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Etowah HS alum Emma Hunt climbed a personal best time of 6.36 seconds.  Emma was the first American woman to qualify for speed climbing and to compete with Team USA in its first year as a standalone Olympic event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.  She was awarded fifth-place overall.

Emma is an accomplished competitive climber competing at both the National and International level in multiple climbing disciplines.  She started climbing at the age of 5 and was introduced to youth competitive climbing at the age of 8.  She has been a member of the Women’s Speed National Team since 2019 when she attended and won Open Female Speed Nationals, her first Open/Elite Competition at 15 years old.  She was the first U.S. woman to post 7 second speed laps and then post 6 second speed laps.  Emma currently holds the Women’s Speed American and Pan American Records at a time of 6.44, which she surpassed this week!
