National Principals Month Spotlight: Debbie Ritter of CCSD Preschool Centers!

October is National Principals Month!  Our Principals are Elevating the Excellence every day in our schools by providing leadership and inspiration.  We’re recognizing one of these amazing leaders each day.  Please join us in thanking them for all they do each day for our students and families, teachers and staff, and communities! #CCSDElevateTheExcellence  #ThankAPrincipal

CCSD Preschool Centers Principal Debbie Ritter

Why did you choose to become a Principal?
Becoming a principal was an easy choice for me, as I have always had a passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on students’ and families’ lives.  I believe that education is transformative and wanted to create an environment where both students and teachers can grow and be the best version of themselves.  As a teacher, I saw the challenges that schools face, and wanted to be in a position to effect change on a larger scale.  As I grew in my educational experiences, both instructionally and as a school leader, I determined what was most important and looked to be in a capacity where I could foster a school culture that is committed to engaging the community, encouraging innovation, and where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

What inspires you in your work as a Principal?
What is inspiring to me about being a principal is the indirect impact I can have on students.  In this role, I can shape instructional experiences and influence both their academic and social growth.  I also enjoy being a “change agent,” and implementing new and innovative ideas to enhance student learning outcomes and address the needs of all stakeholders.  Another inspiration I take from being a principal is the opportunity I have to build relationships with students, staff, and families that can last a lifetime.

How are you Elevating the Excellence in your school?
In our CCSD preschool program, we are elevating the excellence by creating a nurturing environment that promotes optimal learning and development for young children.  My leadership team and I are truly committed to implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum to foster creativity, critical thinking, and social skills.  We are also taking the time to regularly evaluate and update curricular measures to reflect best practices and the latest research for early learning classrooms.
